MelaMatik is a communal celebration of local and global musical unity, the coming together of diverging scenes to weave a tapestry of mutual understanding, friendship and support. Reaching out beyond traditional boundaries of age, background, culture and income, many events priced at mininal cost or free, MelaMatik is leading the way in event accessibility, our aim, to ensure music has a positive role to play in enhancing the lives of all the citizens in the district.
Musical and artistic snobbery has no place within MelaMatik. Regardless of style, genre and scene, each and every soundscape has an equal standing within the festival. This year's diary includes Wurlitzer organs, brass bands, rock concerts, book signings, old skool acid house, and several dub reggae events, to name but a small selection of the contrasting delights on offer. Not forgetting, headlining at St George's Hall, singer/songwriter Kate Rusby.
![]() MelaMatik has revolutionised arts festivals in inviting the public to create their own events to be included on our bill. Whether a small acoustic event at a restaurant, or a major oudoor mini-fest, offering ordinary people full involvement ensures the lasting legacy of MelaMatik remains in the public domain, for the intrinsic benefit of everybody.
MelaMatik is about bringing together people who like different kinds of music, encouraging the most partizan of scene loyalists to venture beyond their comfort zone, and try something new. MelaMatik is about public participation through worskhops and interactive music sessions. MelaMatik is about blurring the divide between education and entertainment.
Above all, MelaMatik is about having fun. Sing, dance, drum, rave, mosh, party, chill, and smile. Get out there and do what you wanna do..........
MelaMatik belongs to you!!!
